摘要： 2009年为国际天文年，这是国际天文学联合会为在世界范围内推动天文普及与教育的一项措施，它得到联合国与教科文组织的支持。笔者从宗旨、组织机构、主要的学术机构和学术活动形式、经费等内容简要地介绍了国际天文学联合会（IAU），并简单回顾了我中国加入IAU以及退出和重新恢复会籍的历史过程。

Abstract: In order to promote the popularization and education in astronomy over the world，the Project for International Year of Astronomy in 2009 (IYA2009) has been suggested by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and authorized by the United Nations and the UNESCO. In this paper the objects, organizations, and scientific bodies of the Union and its scientific activities are mainly introduced. Also, the history of adhering to, withdrawing from and returning to the Union for our Mainland China is reviewed in outline.
